"It's old. It has to be really old because the birds and insects and animals have learned not to land here. "
It always give me a thrill when I saw a horror movie that deal with something "ancient". I don't know why, but I think the concept of very old evil must be stronger here. Anyway, this movie is a bit different with any other horror movies I've seen before.
It tells you a story of four teenagers who accepted the invitation from a stranger they just met at a party over their holiday, somewhere. It's not very clear what kind of their education level, but through times you'll see that one of them is a med school student, which justify his action there. Actually I am a bit annoyed with his character, but we need something to keep the story flowing. Right?
Apart from lacks of character building here, the movie still interested for me, as it uses different shocking elements, which sets it apart from other horror movies. We might see the followers of this one, I believe. In the meantime, if you have nothing else to do this weekend, try to watch this one. You'll get the impression, somehow.

River of blood -- it might be the proper way to describe this show. Beware, this movie might not suitable for some audiences, either because of screen version of Broadway theatrical adaptation or because of it's gory screens.
Most of the time I expected something similar with Edward Scissorhands or Corpse's Bride, another collaboration of Tim Burton as the director and Johnny Depp as the main character. Or maybe I expected easy music much like Sound of Music, but this movie is quite different. It uses hard word as its song's lyrics. At first I did not feel comfortable, just because of the musical style.
Then the second horror came after Sweeney Todd, known before as Benjamin Barker, a barber that was wrongly accused by local jury just to be able to marry his beautiful and virtuous wife, take lives of his innocent victims, one by one. He did it with cold blooded, as mentioned in the movie tagline, "Never Forget, Never Forgive". Don't expect something easy from this movie, as the storyline goes faster and faster, you barely have time to catch your breath. Perhaps only a small moments when his young company, Anthony, who saved him from the sea and then fall in love with his daughter, Johanna, who taken under control of the menacious Judge Turpin.
As if it's not enough, the barber has help from local woman, Ms. Lovett, who crushed since long time to Barker himself. This combination of two make the plot even gorier, as you progress through the story. Again, I might remind you the weak-hearted, to consider not watching this movie. Oh no, I did not wat to scary you, but this time Tim Burton has to do it as closely as possible to the original Stephen Sondham's creation.
Don't take my word, just see it by yourself. Or not see it. It's your choice.
