"It's old. It has to be really old because the birds and insects and animals have learned not to land here. "

It always give me a thrill when I saw a horror movie that deal with something "ancient". I don't know why, but I think the concept of very old evil must be stronger here. Anyway, this movie is a bit different with any other horror movies I've seen before.

It tells you a story of four teenagers who accepted the invitation from a stranger they just met at a party over their holiday, somewhere. It's not very clear what kind of their education level, but through times you'll see that one of them is a med school student, which justify his action there. Actually I am a bit annoyed with his character, but we need something to keep the story flowing. Right?

Apart from lacks of character building here, the movie still interested for me, as it uses different shocking elements, which sets it apart from other horror movies. We might see the followers of this one, I believe. In the meantime, if you have nothing else to do this weekend, try to watch this one. You'll get the impression, somehow.

I can't help but falling in love with this movie. It makes me entertained every single second of it. Haaa!!!

Mind the language, OK? This is a British movie, directed by Guy Ritchie, a quite famous director. As you can expect, it uses British slang a lot. And I mean, really a lot. But don't let that spoil your sense, as I found they quite funny. It's a bit difficult to follow the dialog at first, but after a couple minutes you don't need to understand it completely. Just laugh.

Another plus point for this movie is that it uses an intertwined plot (you know what it is, don't you?) We will follow the story of four friends who was trapped in a situation where they should pay for the lost of a gambling game. Not just that four and the mafia, but there also a couple crook, a debt collector with his son, and a gang of marijuana planters, which somehow connected to each other by the story.

Do you know how many similar movie like this? Not very much, and that's why I love this so much. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels exactly tells you about the title itself. Mens are caught in some situation (Lock), the money involved (Stock), and... well, I'll let you see the movie to find out what is the "Two Smoking Barrels" by yourself.

I probably mistaken this film with another, previously. But now I was glad because of that. This movie definitely will enter my personal collection for many various reasons. One of them is because it does not follow typical ending for Hollywood movies.

"Evening" is an adaptation from a novel by Susan Minot, who also worked on the screenplay, telling the story of a near dying old woman, Ann Grant. She mentioned a name -- Harris -- from her past summer, when she was an honour bridemaid of her friend, Lyla Wittenborn. The story sets in different place and time in flash-forward style (my favourite). Being in her own house at present and in a high-society village near the ocean, this movie also use atmospheric soundtracks that might transfer your imagination to such an era.

Ann's daughters, Connie and Nina, learn something from their mother remembrance while struggle with their own life. Connie is a two child mother, while Nina is a restless woman tied with a boyfriend. While from Ann's past, two other characters are Lyla's brother Buddy and a son of old family housekeeper (now a respectable MD) Harris. Love quadruple works magically here; Buddy crushed on Ann, Harris is Lyla true love, and Harris-Ann emotional string.

What is the moral here? I personally like when old Lyla visited Ann and said "There's no such things as a mistake. Life just goes on." Afterall, we learn something from this life, don't we? That makes us stronger.

The second time I saw Audrey Tautou film, after "Amelie", and I still fall in love with her. Well... perhaps because she is so sexy speaking in French, but after all, isn't that French the sexiest language on Earth?

Though the moral of the story itself can be questioned, you still can enjoy how this young man, Jean (Gad Elmaleh), try to win the heart of Irene (Audrey Tautou). Mistakenly seen as a wealthy businessman, Jean is a shy waiter in a luxurious hotel, while Irene gets her living as a gold digger. But as easily expected, his true identity is uncovered by mistake. Then the game start to roll.

Since Jean already find his true love, he never want to loose her. He try so hard to get her back, even win her at the same game she plays. Some funnies situation arise from this, while Jean try to manage his double life at the same time. Not a really enjoyable life, but for entertainment purposes, who cares?

If you like to watch this movie, keep in mind the last point I mentioned above. Surely we can discuss overnight about moral of the story, but I decided to make it short for my limited time of watching movies. Moreover, I like foreign movies, especially ones with their original language.

Etes-vous d'accord avec moi ?

River of blood -- it might be the proper way to describe this show. Beware, this movie might not suitable for some audiences, either because of screen version of Broadway theatrical adaptation or because of it's gory screens.

Most of the time I expected something similar with Edward Scissorhands or Corpse's Bride, another collaboration of Tim Burton as the director and Johnny Depp as the main character. Or maybe I expected easy music much like Sound of Music, but this movie is quite different. It uses hard word as its song's lyrics. At first I did not feel comfortable, just because of the musical style.

Then the second horror came after Sweeney Todd, known before as Benjamin Barker, a barber that was wrongly accused by local jury just to be able to marry his beautiful and virtuous wife, take lives of his innocent victims, one by one. He did it with cold blooded, as mentioned in the movie tagline, "Never Forget, Never Forgive". Don't expect something easy from this movie, as the storyline goes faster and faster, you barely have time to catch your breath. Perhaps only a small moments when his young company, Anthony, who saved him from the sea and then fall in love with his daughter, Johanna, who taken under control of the menacious Judge Turpin.

As if it's not enough, the barber has help from local woman, Ms. Lovett, who crushed since long time to Barker himself. This combination of two make the plot even gorier, as you progress through the story. Again, I might remind you the weak-hearted, to consider not watching this movie. Oh no, I did not wat to scary you, but this time Tim Burton has to do it as closely as possible to the original Stephen Sondham's creation.

Don't take my word, just see it by yourself. Or not see it. It's your choice.
